A maritime collision occurred at the Holtenau-locks of the Kiel Canal on June 10, 2011, around 2 p.m., involving the British-flagged cargo ship m/v 'Heinrich Ehler' (IMO: 9372200) and the Dutch cargo carrier 'Stroombank' (IMO: 9356543), measuring 2999 gt. The incident took place when the 'Heinrich Ehler' failed to stop in time, resulting in a collision with the stern of the 'Stroombank'. This unfortunate accident caused considerable damage to both vessels. Following the accident, the 'Stroombank', which had just arrived from Bandirma, was temporarily prohibited from continuing its journey as investigations commenced. In contrast, the 'Heinrich Ehler' was cleared to resume its voyage to Rotterdam at approximately 3:30 p.m.
