Cargo Ship 'Sun Brave' Grounds Near Nakado Island, Refloated Without Incident
In a noteworthy maritime incident, the cargo vessel 'Sun Brave' ran aground on the western coast of Nakado Island in the Kurushima Kaikyo Strait, close to Imabari City, at approximately 12:15 PM on April 26, 2024. The ship, which was making its way from Fukuyama to Hong Kong, had 19 crew members on board at the time of the grounding. Fortunately, the Imabari Coast Guard reported that there were no injuries, flooding, or oil spills, and the vessel's grounding did not obstruct shipping traffic in the area. The 'Sun Brave' was successfully refloated around 11 PM that same night, thanks to the assistance of tugboats during high tide. Following the refloating operation, the cargo ship anchored at coordinates 34° 03.82 N 133° 02.91' E, off the coast of Imabari, where it remained stationary as of April 30, 2024.
