Injury Reported After Fall on Rotterdam's Sunset X During Ship Repair

In the early hours of November 9, 2025, a 58-year-old man from Rotterdam sustained injuries after falling from an unknown height onto the 'Sunset X' at the Damen Shiprepair facility in Botlek, part of the bustling Rotterdam port area. The incident occurred around 3 a.m., leaving the victim injured yet responsive. Quick to react, emergency services were summoned, and an air ambulance was promptly dispatched to the location. This aircraft landed at a designated area near the AVR waste incinerator and remained on station for approximately two hours. Following initial assessments, the man was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Vessel Detained in Lisbon Due to Serious Deficiencies

On April 10, 2025, the bulk carrier 'Sunset X' was apprehended in Lisbon after being found with seven deficiencies during an inspection, four of which were deemed severe enough to warrant its detention. The issues identified included non-compliance with pollution prevention standards, specifically: 1) Performance standards for pollution prevention not met; 2) Ballast Water Management Plan lacking approval; 3) Ballast Water Management Certificate not compliant with regulations; and 4) International Safety Management (ISM) Certificate found to be inadequate. After addressing the identified deficiencies, the vessel was released from detention on April 15 and subsequently set sail from Lisbon, heading towards Algeciras. On April 22, at 7:50 a.m., the containership 'Samskip Skalafell' made its way into the port of Dublin, bearing noticeable damage to the bulwarks on the starboard side, situated above the waterline. Fortunately, the vessel was deemed seaworthy and departed Dublin later that day at 5:20 p.m. The ship then proceeded to Cork, arriving on April 23 at 6 p.m. Following its stop in Cork, the 'Samskip Skalafell' continued its journey to Southampton on April 25, before charting a course to Rotterdam, where it is scheduled to arrive on April 26, with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) of April 27.
