On March 1, 2025, at 6 p.m., a Russian ballistic missile attack caused significant damage to the 'MSC Levante F' while it was docked at berth 2 in the Odesa port. This incident comes shortly after Odesa had resumed its container shipping activities after extensive local disruptions due to targeted Russian strikes on civilian maritime routes over the last few years. Additionally, the bulk carrier 'Super Sarkas', carrying over 21,000 tons of corn and soybeans slated for export, also incurred minor damage in the attack and has likewise departed Odesa as of March 4. The region has seen a troubling pattern of Russian aggression against merchant shipping, especially during the early months of the invasion in 2022, marked by missile and drone strikes against port infrastructure along the Ukrainian segment of the Danube.
