On May 2, 2020, a critical medical evacuation was conducted for a Filipino crew member aboard the 'Swift Ace', which was positioned approximately eight kilometers from the Port of Veracruz. The Secretary of the Navy (Semar) responded to an emergency distress call from the port captaincy, which indicated that the crew member was experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, including fever and difficulty breathing. Semar promptly coordinated with the International Health authorities and the Regional Port Captaincy of Veracruz to execute the high-seas evacuation procedure. A patrol boat equipped with specialized medical gear was dispatched without delay to assist in the operation. Upon reaching the vessel, Naval Health professionals rendered immediate medical care to the 31-year-old crew member. He was subsequently handed over to the International Health services upon arrival at the port.
