Wind Storm Causes Maritime Disruption in Novorossiysk

Jul 27, 2018 12:25

On July 25, 2018, Novorossiysk experienced a sudden shift in wind conditions that led to significant maritime disruptions. Between 9:15 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., gusts from the north shifted to the southeast, reaching speeds of up to 24-25 meters per second. This unexpected weather change resulted in four vessels losing their moorings or dragging anchor. The cargo vessel m/v 'Serenada' lost her stern moorings, colliding with berth no. 39. Meanwhile, the sheerleg crane 'Barbaros 3' experienced a break in both fore and aft mooring lines. Despite dropping her anchors, she drifted and made contact with floating dock No. 3 at the Novorossiysk Ship Repair Yard. Additionally, the vessel 'Lion' broke free from her stern moorings, causing an allision with berth no. 5. The cargo m/v 'Storm' dragged her anchor beyond anchorage limits, grounding her stern in the process. Fortunately, 'Storm' was able to refloat herself and return safely to her anchorage. Reports indicate that all damages incurred by the vessels and port facilities were classified as minor.
