On December 20, 2014, a critical emergency unfolded when a crew member aboard the LPG tanker 'Symi' experienced severe cardiac issues, prompting an immediate response from the lifeboat stationed in Breskens. The tanker was in the process of bunkering at the entrance of the lock port of Flushing when the alarm was raised. The rescue vessel 'Zeemanshoop' quickly made its way to the scene. Upon arrival, two crew members from the 'Zeemanshoop' boarded the 'Symi' to assess the condition of the distressed sailor, who was suffering from intense chest pain and loss of mobility in his arms and legs. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the emergency center was notified to dispatch an ambulance to Bootliedenwacht BV, the closest access point. In an effort to mitigate any potential risks, the decision was made to transport the patient on a stretcher. The evacuation was deftly carried out via the gangway of the 'Symi' and onto the deck of the bunker barge 'Finitor.' Once on board the lifeboat, the patient was promptly moved to the wheelhouse, and the vessel then navigated towards Bootliedenwacht BV. From there, the patient was transported directly to a local hospital for further medical attention.
