In a significant move, the U.S. Treasury Department implemented sanctions in the last week of July 2025, targeting over 115 individuals, entities, and ships linked to Iran, some of which are involved in the transportation of Russian oil. Among those affected are three tankers: the 'Tagor', 'Guanyin', and 'Tassos', all of which were slated to deliver Russian oil to various Indian ports this month. These vessels, now under U.S. sanctions, have had to change their routes due to the imposed restrictions. The 'Tagor', initially on its way to Chennai, has redirected its course towards Dalian, while the 'Tassos' has opted for Port Said. The 'Guanyin', however, continues its journey toward Sikka, a port frequently used by major players like Reliance Industries and Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd. These sanctions are a crucial part of the U.S. strategy aimed at limiting Russia’s oil revenue, which is widely recognized as a source of funding for its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. This has led to a notable impact on the supplies of Russian oil to India, a country that relies on Russia for over one-third of its oil imports. In addition to these three tankers, two others, the 'Achilles' and 'Elyte', both carrying Russian Urals, are preparing to offload their cargo for Reliance. It's important to note that both of these vessels are also under sanctions imposed by Britain and the European Union.

In a recent development, PDVSA has successfully engaged a new charter agreement, securing vessel services at a competitive rate of $16,250 per day. This strategic move reflects the company's ongoing efforts to optimize its operational efficiency in the maritime sector.
