In a critical rescue operation, the United States Coast Guard conducted a medevac for an injured crew member aboard the cargo ship 'Teal Arrow' off Charleston's coast on the morning of March 24, 2020. The incident unfolded when the Coast Guard received a distress call from the vessel, located approximately 175 miles east of Charleston, at 4:44 p.m. on March 23. A crew member had sustained a serious injury to his hand while the ship was en route towards the South Carolina shoreline. Promptly responding to the emergency, an Air Facility Charleston helicopter team was dispatched and successfully hoisted the injured man around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, approximately 50 miles southeast of Charleston. Following the rescue, he was transported to the Charleston Executive Airport on Johns Island and subsequently admitted to the Medical University of South Carolina for further treatment.
