On August 14, 2025, the tanker 'Tenacity Venture', carrying 90,730 tons of oil from Come by Chance, Canada, to Constanta, encountered an engine malfunction while navigating the Bosphorus Strait. This unexpected breakdown caused a temporary halt to vessel traffic in both directions through this crucial maritime passage. The vessel slowed its progress near Kandilli, prompting a swift response from the Istanbul Vessel Traffic Services Centre. With the assistance of a strait pilot, the stricken tanker was successfully towed to safety by three tugs: 'Kurtarma 8' (IMO: 9598610), 'Kurtarma 5' (IMO: 9463164), and 'Kurtarma 11' (IMO: 9854399). As of August 20, the 'Tenacity Venture' has been secured at an anchorage position of 40° 56' N, 028° 47' E and remains stationary.
