The Thalassa: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On September 22, 2025, an urgent medical evacuation operation unfolded at sea for a crew member aboard the vessel 'Thalassa' due to a serious injury. The CROSS Jobourg was instrumental in coordinating the timely evacuation to the port of Diélette, ultimately facilitating his transfer to the emergency medical services in Cherbourg. Notification of the incident was promptly made to the Maritime Medical Consultation Center (CCMM) in Toulouse, which initiated a collaborative response involving a conference call between itself, the Maritime Medical Coordination Emergency Medical Service (SCMM) from Le Havre, and the crew of the affected ship. Following a thorough assessment, medical professionals recommended the medevac procedure. The lifeboat 'SNS 257' from the local SNSM station in Diélette was dispatched to the 'Thalassa' to carry out the rescue operation. Upon arrival in Diélette, the injured individual was received by a rescue vehicle and subsequently transported to the Cherbourg hospital for further treatment.

On October 9, 2020, a crew member aboard the vessel 'Thalassa' sustained a head injury while approximately 36 miles northeast of Barfleur. The emergency arose at 12:30 p.m., prompting the CROSS Jobourg to respond after receiving a call from the maritime medical consultation center in Toulouse. Coordinating efforts with the SAMU in Le Havre, authorities opted for a medical evacuation to ensure the injured sailor received prompt treatment at Caen University Hospital. Given the vessel's considerable distance from the shoreline, the CROSS deployed a Cayman helicopter stationed at the Navy base in Maupertus. By 1:10 p.m., rescue personnel successfully hoisted the injured sailor into the helicopter. The transfer was efficiently managed, and the sailor was later dropped off at Caen-Carpiquet Airport at 1:40 p.m. There, a rapid response team from the SMUR mobile emergency and resuscitation service awaited to transport him to the hospital for further medical attention.
