Boxship 'Langeness' Faces Mechanical Issues in the Elbe River

Dec 17, 2016 18:20

On December 17, 2016, at 10:45 PM, the container ship 'Langeness' encountered engine difficulties while sailing from Bremerhaven to Helsinki. The vessel dropped its anchor off Otterndorf at the Neufeld West anchorage for safety. To assist with the situation, the tugboat 'Wulf 7' was dispatched from Cuxhaven earlier that day at noon. Later, at 8:45 PM, another tug, 'Bugsier 2,' joined the efforts to help the stricken boxship. The 'Langeness' was successfully towed towards Wilhelmshaven and docked at the Jade Weser Port on December 18 at 1:30 PM. After making necessary repairs, the ship departed from Jade Weser Port on December 29 at 4:30 AM and made its way to the MWB Bremerhaven Shipyard, where it berthed at noon to undergo further servicing.

Kiel Canal Temporarily Closed Due to Collision Involving MV Langeness and MV Ternvind

Sep 05, 2016 08:57

On September 4, 2016, at approximately 5:45 PM, maritime operations on the Kiel Canal were interrupted following a collision between the container vessel MV Langeness and the tanker MV Ternvind. The incident occurred near the bridge of Rade, leading to MV Langeness becoming lodged against the embankment. Consequently, shipping traffic in the Rade-Audorf area was suspended, with vessels forced to moor at Schülp, Königsförde, and Groß-Nordsee. After a brief inspection, MV Ternvind was released following the collision. However, MV Langeness remained unable to maneuver under its own power. The situation was resolved just before 8 PM when the tugboat Bremerhaven, which happened to be trailing the MV Langeness at the time of the accident, came to its aid and successfully pulled the vessel free. The MV Langeness was subsequently escorted to Kiel, where it docked at Voith Quay around 10:30 PM. In an early assessment of the incident, initial reports suggested that a failed overtaking maneuver by MV Ternvind, which was en route from Rotterdam to Kalundborg, may have contributed to the collision. Meanwhile, MV Ternvind was moored at the north jetty in Kiel by 8:30 PM. Following the incident, MV Langeness departed Kiel at 6:40 PM, just after MV Ternvind, which left port at 6:15 PM, continuing on their respective journeys.
