Norwegian offshore specialist Havila Shipping has announced today the temporary lay up of its AHTS vessels, Havila Mars and Havila Neptune. This decision comes as part of a strategic response to the current market climate, which the company does not anticipate will improve in the near future. Consequently, Havila Shipping will issue notices to some of its employees and implement cuts in crew hiring practices. The primary challenges facing the company are rooted in supply side constraints. On June 6, 2011, the 'Havila Mars' played a vital role in a rescue mission when the lifeboat 'Simrad Buholmen' requested assistance for a distressed 36-foot Viknes 1030 speedboat that had run aground while navigating from Stadhavet to Møre near Kråkeneset in Vågsøy, Romsdal. The NSSR lifeboat deployed two crew members alongside a portable bilge pump from the Vågsøy fire brigade to help refloat the stranded vessel. It maneuvered as close to the shoreline as safely possible, preparing its cranes and winches to hoist the damaged speedboat aboard. Ultimately, the lifeboat 'Halfdan Grieg' took charge of the towing operation, successfully relocating the wreck to Måløy.
