Thun Resource Tanker Faces Blackout on Scheldt River
In a dramatic incident early on April 10, 2025, the 'Thun Resource' experienced an unexpected engine blackout while navigating the Scheldt River close to Terneuzen (Lat. 51.3606, Lng. 3.7585). The vessel was on its journey from Nynäshamn to Antwerp when it was rendered Not Under Command (NUC). Fortunately, the nearby tugs 'VB Lieven Gevaert' (IMO: 9120140) and 'VB Pearl' (IMO: 9314272) quickly responded and lent their assistance. Once the tugs secured a connection to the stricken tanker, they began towing it as a 'dead ship' toward its destination in Antwerp. As the situation unfolded, the tug 'VB Shark' (IMO: 9410715) joined the effort to provide additional support as a second forward tug. The 'Thun Resource' successfully resumed its voyage on April 14.
