Emergency Tug Strilborg Disabled by Fire, Norwegian Coast Guard Steps In

Apr 09, 2018 21:22

On April 8, 2018, the 'Strilborg,' a key emergency tug, experienced a significant setback when a fire erupted in its switchboard while the vessel was docked at Sortland. The incident rendered the tug temporarily inoperative, prompting the Norwegian Coast Guard to take swift action by deploying one of its own vessels to maintain safety operations in the area. The patrol boat 'Harstad' (IMO No.: 9312107) has been assigned to be on standby for towing duties until the 'Strilborg' completes its repairs and becomes operational again. The 'Harstad' arrived in Sortland on April 9 at 11:10 a.m., ensuring that maritime assistance remains available during this disruption.

Supply Ship Strilborg Runs Aground Off Finnsnese

Mar 01, 2016 22:07

On the afternoon of March 1, 2016, at approximately 2 p.m., the supply vessel "Strilborg" found itself grounded in the Finnsnsesrenna area, located between Harstad and Tromsø. The incident occurred while the ship was navigating the southbound lane and inadvertently followed incorrect markings. After passing beneath the Gisund Bridge, the vessel veered towards the left side of the buoys, leading to its entrapment outside the designated fairway. In response, the Coastguard ship "Sortland" along with the tugboat "Lupus" were summoned to assist in refloating the Strilborg during the high tide scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Fortunately, the vessel successfully freed itself using its own power around 5 p.m. and was subsequently escorted to Finnsnes for thorough inspections.
