Variety Cruises Cancels Summer 2017 Sailings for Callisto Motor Yacht Due to Damage

Jul 10, 2017 12:15

Variety Cruises has announced the unfortunate cancellation of its summer 2017 sailing itinerary in Iceland for the 34-passenger motor yacht, Callisto. This decision comes following an incident that occurred earlier this month while the yacht was in the process of refuelling. The Callisto was repositioning from Panama to Iceland in anticipation of the upcomingJune to September travel season when the damage was sustained. Fortunately, there were no passengers onboard during the incident. Nevertheless, the specifics regarding the precise timing and location of the occurrence remain elusive despite ongoing investigations. In response to the situation, Callisto has returned to Panama where it will undergo a thorough dry dock assessment to evaluate the extent of the damage and facilitate necessary repairs. Variety Cruises elaborated in their statement, "Callisto suffered a grounding accident during refuelling on her empty (crew only) positioning voyage to Iceland from Panama, and the vessel's stabilizers were severely damaged." As a result, travelers looking forward to a unique Icelandic adventure aboard Callisto will need to make alternate plans this summer.
