Tokyo Triumph Halts in Lacadive Sea for Engine Repairs

Tokyo Triumph Faces Regulatory Violations in Hamburg Inspection
The 'Tokyo Triumph,' a vessel chartered by Evergreen, encountered significant regulatory issues during a water police inspection in Hamburg on January 9, 2018. During the inspection, authorities identified multiple deficiencies concerning marine regulations. Consequently, administrative actions were initiated against the ship's captain, first officer, and chief engineer, culminating in a hefty fine of €21,843. A key violation involved the chief engineer, a 56-year-old Indian national, who reportedly failed to switch the auxiliary diesel fuel from high to low sulfur during the vessel's transit through the North Sea, leading to the prohibited burning of illicit fuel. Additionally, he submitted incorrect data regarding the fuel changeover time in the required documentation. At Burchard Quay in Waltershof port, inspectors observed that the ship's effluents lacked the mandated chlorination despite the presence of open outboard valves in the onboard wastewater treatment system. The first officer, also of Indian nationality, had previously discharged untreated ballast water into Hamburg's port in November 2017. Furthermore, the inspection revealed that the ship's ballast water, oil, and refuse logs were not maintained in accordance with regulatory standards. After addressing these legal issues, the Tokyo Triumph departed Hamburg on January 11, 2018, for its next destination, Rotterdam.
