On May 24, 2016, the tanker H.Ismail Kaptanoglu was involved in a significant environmental incident in Vlora, Albania, where an oil leak resulted in the contamination of local beaches. The exact cause and volume of the leaked oil remain unclear; however, the spill affected approximately five kilometers of the pristine coastline. At the time of the accident, the vessel was engaged in cargo operations at the Zvernec terminal.
