Traveller Ship Details and Seafarer Feedback

On March 6, 2015, a remarkable act of heroism unfolded as the cargo ship 'Traveller' embarked on a mission to save the life of a critically ill 7-year-old girl on the isolated island of St. Helena. Responding to an urgent emergency call, the dedicated crew of the 'Traveller' learned that the young girl urgently needed medical attention. With St. Helena’s remote location posing significant logistical challenges, local residents contacted the Coast Guard for assistance. Utilizing satellite technology, the Coast Guard identified nearby vessels, including the 'Traveller', which was already on its way from Durban to the Virgin Islands and had the island along its route. Time was of the essence as the vessel raced against the clock. In the early hours of March 7, the 'Traveller' successfully boarded the sick child, her parents, and accompanying medical staff. Shortly thereafter, on March 8, the cargo ship reached Ascension Island, home to a U.S. air base, where a military plane was on standby. The girl was promptly transferred and flown to London for treatment, where she is currently on the path to recovery.
