On the evening of October 5, 2015, at 8:45 PM, the container ship 'Tripoli' encountered an unfortunate incident while navigating towards Duisburg from Rotterdam. The vessel, which had recently departed from Zeebrugge at 7 PM carrying empty containers on deck, hit the Merwede bridge that connects Dordrecht and Papendrecht. The collision resulted in one container being severely damaged, while another was dislodged and fell into the water, sinking in the Lower Merwede at a depth of nine meters. Quick action was taken, with divers from Hebo Maritime successfully retrieving the sunken container by 1 AM on October 6. As a result of the allision, traffic on the bridge and the nearby N3 roadway was temporarily halted, causing significant disruption in both road and ship traffic.
