On January 10, 2017, a significant maritime accident occurred in the East China Sea close to Shanghai when the bulk carrier 'Stella Cherise' collided with the vessel 'Spartacus'. Fortunately, the 'Spartacus' emerged relatively unscathed, sustaining only minor damage and subsequently anchoring in the Yangtze River estuary. In contrast, the 'Stella Cherise' experienced more severe consequences, with a five-meter section of its hull damaged on both the starboard side and above the waterline. This damage led to water ingress in cargo hold number 5, leaving the vessel adrift.
