M/V Kapitan Felix Oca Set to Deliver Humanitarian Aid to Tacloban

Nov 13, 2013 10:13

The Norwegian Training Center Manila (NTC-M) is extending an invitation to non-governmental organizations and government agencies to participate in a humanitarian initiative by shipping food packages to Tacloban aboard a chartered vessel. The M/V Kapitan Felix Oca is scheduled to depart from Manila at midnight on Tuesday. This effort is in collaboration with the Philippines Norway Business Council, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Department of Energy (DOE), as confirmed by the NTC-M in an official statement. Currently docked in Manila Bay, the vessel will not only carry essential food supplies but also a range of critical humanitarian support. The onboard team includes a WHO medical unit equipped with six tons of medical supplies, along with 5,000 'family packs' filled with 5 kilograms of rice, sardines, noodles, water, corned beef, and coffee—procured by NTC-M specifically for this mission. Additionally, the DOE will be sending a five-man team with four tons of equipment, while a group of 23 miners will accompany a rescue team along with 400 kilos of mining gear. Communications equipment from SMART Telecommunications will also be onboard to ensure seamless connectivity during the operation. Moreover, the Norwegian embassy in Manila has contributed P100,000 worth of food, water, and sanitary materials, further enhancing the relief supplies. In a significant display of support, Norway recently pledged NOK 20 million (approximately P140 million) in immediate humanitarian assistance for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda, which will be distributed through reputable organizations such as the United Nations and Red Cross, among others. This concerted effort underscores the dedication to providing relief to those affected by the disaster in Tacloban.
