Ts-Royalist Vessel Reviews and Specifications

On April 6, 2021, at approximately 5:10 PM, the tall ship 'Royalist' requested urgent assistance from HM Coastguard while positioned five miles into Rye Bay due to a crew member sustaining an injury to his hand and arm. Responding promptly, the RNLI based in Rye Harbour deployed their Atlantic 85 Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) to the scene. Two trained lifeboat crew members were successfully transferred to the tall ship, where they utilized their first aid expertise to provide immediate care to the injured sailor. Thanks to the highly skilled crew aboard the 'Royalist', the injured individual was in capable hands from the outset. While the initial plan involved transferring the casualty to the lifeboat for a journey to shore-based emergency services, it was swiftly decided to involve a Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter from Lydd for a more efficient evacuation. A paramedic from the helicopter was lowered onto the 'Royalist' to enhance the ongoing first aid while the helicopter refueled before its return. This ensured a rapid transfer of the injured sailor to Ashford Hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, the two RNLI crew members reboarded the 'Hello Herbie II' for their return to the Rye Harbour lifeboat station.
