On February 22, 2018, the 'Blue Moon I', an inspected vessel, faced a critical Port State Control (PSC) evaluation at the Sitia port. The inspection revealed that five out of the twelve crew members lacked valid certificates of naval competence, raising serious concerns about the vessel's operational capabilities. Furthermore, the PSC inspectors discovered numerous significant deficiencies in crucial areas, including safety at sea regulations, compliance with Maritime labour contracts, the legitimacy of loading line contracts, standards of training certificates, seafarers' watchkeeping practices, marine environmental protection measures, and adherence to the International Conflict Prevention Code. Due to these grave findings, Port State Control (PSC) inspectors enforced a detention order on the vessel under the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), underscoring the importance of strict compliance with maritime regulations.
