UAL Africa Captured by Pirates in Gulf of Guinea; Crew Safely Takes Refuge in Citadel
On November 7, 2025, the cargo vessel 'UAL Africa', which was traveling from Houston to Soya, became the target of a pirate attack in the notorious waters of the Gulf of Guinea. The ship's crew, consisting of 11 members, successfully evaded kidnapping by taking refuge in the citadel, a fortified area of the vessel designed for such emergencies. As reported by the Maritime Information Cooperation & Awareness Center (MICA Center) based in Brest, the incident transpired approximately 75 nautical miles northwest of Bata, Equatorial Guinea. Although the pirates boarded and rummaged through the ship, they were unable to breach the citadel where the crew had secured themselves. In the wake of the attack, a security team dispatched from Cameroon responded swiftly, finding the 'UAL Africa' abandoned by the assailants. The vessel, having escaped a potentially dire situation, made its way to Port Gentil, where it docked on November 11.
