Deadly Green Mamba Discovered in Cargo at Aberdeen Harbour
On November 9, 2016, a potentially lethal green mamba snake was discovered at Aberdeen Harbour, aboard the cargo vessel 'UAL Bodewes'. This highly-venomous serpent raised immediate concerns, prompting the Scottish SPCA to respond swiftly. Rescue officers transported the green mamba to their facility in Drumoak; however, it was sadly euthanized as the centre was not equipped to care for such a dangerous animal. The 'UAL Bodewes' had journeyed from West Africa, making stops at several ports including Gabon, Angola, Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, and Equatorial Guinea, before arriving in Aberdeen.
