Following the successful completion of repairs due to an allision incident, the bulk carrier 'Niton Cobalt' resumed its operations on January 19, 2020, at Chittagong outer anchorage. The vessel was in the process of discharging approximately 4,500 tonnes of damaged cargo into a lighter vessel after the mishap involving the 'Indigo Silva'. This cargo transfer was anticipated to conclude within the week, after which 'Niton Cobalt' was set to embark on its journey to Singapore. The allision occurred on December 17, 2019, while 'Niton Cobalt' was maneuvering for departure towards its next destination, Mongla. During the incident, the vessel made contact with the bulbous bow and stem of 'Indigo Silva', leading to significant damage. Specifically, the hull suffered an impact at the sheer strake of cargo hold No.5, resulting in a rupture in the forward section of the hold which contained bulk gypsum, causing flooding. Prior to the incident, the 'Indigo Silva' had anchored at Chittagong on December 10 and continued its voyage to Gladstone on December 26. The vessel is scheduled to make subsequent calls at Bell Bay before heading towards Bilbao, with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) set for February 22.
