Vessel Passaat Collides with Flood Gate in Brunsbüttel
On March 15, 2014, the cargo vessel Passaat experienced an unfortunate incident when it collided with flood gate no. 7.2 of the southern lock at the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel. The ship, which was traveling light from Grimsby to Vierow, was preparing to enter the lock at approximately 6:37 a.m. when strong winds pushed it from behind, coupled with a malfunction of its bow thruster, resulting in the allision with the gate. Thankfully, while the flood gate sustained considerable damage, it remained operational. The Passaat itself incurred minor damage at the bow and proceeded to Vierow for a comprehensive inspection. Following the incident, on March 16 at 11 a.m., the vessel anchored off the coast of Rügen.
