UMM Salal Container Ship Grounds Near Port Klang
On April 6, 2017, the container ship UMM Salal found itself aground in the Malacca Strait, approximately 15 nautical miles from the entrance of Port Klang. After departing the port at 8:15 a.m., the vessel, which was headed for Khor Fakkan, became immobilized near the busy fairway and traffic separation zone. To assist in the recovery efforts, the Malaysian supply vessel Spica (MMSI: 533000420) was dispatched to the scene. The UMM Salal was part of the United Arab Shipping Company's AGX1 service, facilitating trade routes that connect China through Port Klang to the Middle East.
Umm Salal Container Ship Runs Aground on the Scheldt River
On January 31, 2015, the container ship 'Umm Salal' encountered a significant challenge while navigating the Scheldt River near Lillo. The vessel, which had just departed from the Antwerp Gateway Terminal at 8:40 a.m., suffered an engine failure shortly after being assisted by two tugs that were guiding it towards the North Sea. As a result, the heavily laden ship became stranded in the mud outside of the designated shipping channel. In a timely response, five additional tugs from URS were summoned to aid in the refloating efforts, as the tide was set to recede at 10 a.m. Fortunately, the engine issues were resolved, allowing the 'Umm Salal' to be refloated by 9:20 a.m. The ship was subsequently towed back to the PSA Deurganck Terminal for a thorough inspection and safely berthed at approximately 10:15 a.m. For more details and images from the incident, visit the Dutch news sources: [Nieuwsblad](http://www.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20150131_01504144) and [Gva](http://www.gva.be/cnt/dmf20150131_01504038/reuzenschip-komt-in-moeilijkheden-op-schelde).
