In a remarkable display of maritime heroism, Crowley has reported that a vessel managed by the Military Sealift Command (MSC) successfully rescued 11 mariners from a sinking ship in the tumultuous waters of the South China Sea. On July 19, while navigating towards Subic Bay, Philippines, the USNS Impeccable (T-AGOS 23) made a vital discovery. Its vigilant lookout spotted distress signals, including lights and debris, indicating the presence of a nearby vessel that was perilously close to sinking. Situated roughly 100 nautical miles northwest of Cape Bolinao, Philippines, the scene was dire as the crew of the endangered ship signaled for help from their nearly submerged wheelhouse. Under the command of Capt. Robert Wiechert, the Impeccable swiftly maneuvered towards the stricken vessel. Recognizing the urgent need for action, Capt. Wiechert ordered the deployment of the ship’s Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) or Fast Rescue Boat. Chief Mate Wayne Robinson and Able Bodied Seaman Clifford Blackmon took to the RHIB, making three courageous trips to the distressed mariners. Thanks to their quick actions and decisive response, all 11 fishermen were rescued just moments before the derelict vessel completely sank beneath the waves.
