Alianca Navegacao Strengthens Brazilian Cabotage Market with New Vessels
Last week marked a significant milestone for Alianca Navegacao as the company celebrated the christening of the Vicente Pinzon, signifying the completion of a R$ 700 million ($224.5 million) investment aimed at modernizing its cabotage and coastal fleet. This strategic upgrade is designed to bolster Alianca’s position in the competitive Brazilian cabotage sector. The Vicente Pinzon, with an impressive capacity of 4,828 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), along with its sister ship Bartolomeu Dias, is set to enhance cargo shipping on routes to Manaus, the capital of Amazonas. Previously, the largest vessels servicing the Manaus port could only carry up to 2,600 TEUs. Ramesh Thadani, who oversees new business ventures for Grupo Simoes—a company based in Manaus with various interests in logistics, beverages, gases, and vehicles—stated, “The introduction of these new vessels from Alianca Navegacao really is a game changer. With a breadth of 37.3 meters (122 feet), these vessels possess the capacity to navigate the Amazon River while accommodating significantly more containers than their competitors, providing Alianca with a notable competitive edge.” This investment positions Alianca Navegacao to meet the growing demand for shipping services in the Amazon region, ultimately aiming to enhance trade efficiency and support economic growth.
