On April 26, the 'Victoria' has officially resumed its voyages following extensive repairs after a grounding incident. The vessel had been secured at Lindö Yard in Vigerö/Odense since February 17, awaiting necessary repairs. Towed 'Victoria' Heads to Fayard Shipyard After Breach Incident

Feb 17, 2017 09:50

On February 17, the vessel 'Victoria' was taken under tow by the tugs 'Svitzer Mars' and 'Svitzer Trym', proceeding towards the Fayard shipyard located in the Odense Fjord, Funen. The Danish defense authorities maintained a vigilant watch throughout the journey, deeming the salvage strategy devised by the Döhle company as both sensible and pragmatic. Collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Danish Maritime Authority allowed the operation to commence at a reduced speed. During the tow, defense environmental ships trailed closely behind, prepared to respond to any emergencies that might arise. Although the grounding incident caused multiple fuel tanks to breach, the environmental risks turned out to be less severe than initially anticipated, largely due to the cold water conditions. The type of oil released from the tanks began to solidify at approximately six degrees Celsius, with water temperatures recorded around two degrees Celsius, mitigating potential environmental damage. The convoy successfully reached Munkebo by 2 p.m. on the same day. For more details, you can view the Danish report and accompanying video at this link: https://maritimedanmark.dk/?Id=33887.
