Halunder Jet Loading Delayed Due to High Winds
The scheduled loading of the 'Halunder Jet' onto the heavy load carrier 'Palabora' at the Ems Quay in Emden faced delays on November 14, 2017, due to adverse weather conditions, specifically strong winds. Fortunately, on November 15, the operation resumed, and within a span of nine hours, two cranes successfully lifted the 'Halunder Jet' onto the freighter. This iconic vessel, which previously serviced the route from Hamburg through Wedel and Cuxhaven to Heligoland, is now set for an exciting new chapter as it makes its way to Canada. In approximately 32 days, the 'Halunder Jet' will commence operations between Vancouver and Victoria, enhancing maritime connectivity in the region. Halunder Jet Set to Launch Vancouver-Victoria Ferry Service in Spring 2018
In an exciting development for travelers in Canada, Clipper will introduce a new passenger ferry route connecting downtown Vancouver and Victoria starting in spring 2018. The service will utilize the Halunder Jet, a high-speed catamaran measuring 52 meters, operated by the parent company, FRS. Currently stationed in the North Sea, this 579-passenger ferry has been specifically designed for FRS's routes between Hamburg and Heligoland. Notably, the Halunder Jet is equipped to handle challenging sea conditions akin to those found in the Salish Sea and features a state-of-the-art motion dampening system to ensure a smooth and comfortable journey for its passengers. Before its much-anticipated launch in spring 2018, the Halunder Jet will undergo retrofitting to meet Clipper's operational requirements and will be reflagged for its new service.
Halunder Jet Makes Emergency Return to Cuxhaven Due to Fuel Line Issue
On the afternoon of July 18, 2012, the Halunder Jet was compelled to turn back to Cuxhaven after experiencing a ruptured fuel line. The high-speed catamaran was transporting approximately 500 passengers to Helgoland when a leaking fuel line caused significant smoke to emit from the exhaust pipe. Swiftly responding to the emergency, the captain navigated the vessel back to the 'Alte Liebe' jetty in Cuxhaven, where both crew members and passengers were safely evacuated. Emergency services from the Fire Department promptly arrived on the scene, removing sections of insulation soaked in fuel and effectively managing the situation to ensure safety for everyone involved.
