On February 10, 2022, the container ship 'Vigeo Adebola' encountered a significant operational issue at the Federal Ocean Terminal in Onne, leading to a dangerous list to the port side. The incident was triggered when the vessel took on potable fresh water from a barge. Recognizing the risk, the ship was promptly relocated to a safer area, away from the critical FOT Onne Channel. By February 13, the crew managed to stabilize the situation by transferring some of the fresh water from the port side to the starboard side, effectively bringing the ship back to an even keel. Throughout the event, surveyors from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) closely monitored the operations to ensure the safety and compliance of the vessel until it was successfully stabilized and moved to a secure position.
