Viking Sea Breaks Free During Stormy Conditions in Ravenna

Sep 19, 2022 11:22

On the morning of September 17, 2022, the cruise vessel 'Viking Sea' experienced a dramatic incident as it broke free from its moorings at the port of Ravenna. The port was engulfed in severe weather, with wind gusts reaching up to 150 km/h. In response to the emergency, five tugboats swiftly came to the aid of the vessel, working diligently for approximately four hours to regain control and secure the ship in a stable position, successfully preventing any grounding or allisions. Remarkably, all 870 passengers aboard the 'Viking Sea' were unharmed during the incident. The cruise ship was able to make its way back to the Cruise Terminal by the afternoon. Following a brief delay due to the adverse weather conditions, the 'Viking Sea' departed from Ravenna at 8:50 p.m., setting sail for Corfu, with an estimated time of arrival on September 20. Gastrointestinal Illness Affects Passengers on Viking Sea Cruise

Dec 18, 2021 16:21

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is actively investigating a significant outbreak of gastrointestinal illness aboard the Viking Sea. Out of the 640 passengers on board, 114 reported experiencing diarrhea, in addition to four crew members from a staff of 404. These illnesses are suspected to be caused by an unidentified agent, and importantly, the current numbers do not account for any symptoms that may have developed post-disembarkation. The Viking Sea set sail on a transatlantic journey from Barcelona on November 29, 2021, making stops at various destinations including cities in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, and St. Maarten, before concluding its cruise in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on December 13. In response to the outbreak, the Viking Sea has implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfection measures, in accordance with its outbreak prevention and response plan. Additionally, stool samples from both passengers and crew members have been collected for testing purposes. To ensure the safety of all aboard, the ship has been submitting daily reports of the illness cases to the CDC's Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP). This program is dedicated to aiding the cruise industry in effective prevention and control strategies for gastrointestinal illnesses. The VSP continues to monitor the response to the outbreak, including the sanitation protocols being carried out on the ship. Currently, the Viking Sea is on its way to Barbados for a round trip cruise that commenced from San Juan on December 14.

Viking Sea Diverts to Cherbourg Amid High Winds, Cancels Falmouth Stop

Apr 19, 2019 22:41

On April 18, 2019, the cruise ship "Viking Sea" was forced to alter its itinerary and forgo its scheduled docking at County Wharf in Falmouth after weather forecasts indicated wind gusts reaching 40 knots. The vessel, originally set to arrive at approximately 8 a.m., had nearly 30 tour coaches pre-booked to transport passengers to various attractions throughout Cornwall. Unfortunately, this change in plans meant that all excursions were cancelled as the ship redirected its course to Cherbourg instead, prioritizing the safety and comfort of its guests.
