On April 15, 2026, a maritime mishap unfolded in Bremerhaven when the bunker tanker 'RLO Merchant' (IMO: 9305350) inadvertently collided with two moored container vessels at the Strom Quay. The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. when the tanker attempted to maneuver alongside the 'Vilnia Maersk' for refueling, potentially influenced by challenging water currents. Unfortunately, the attempt resulted in significant damage to both the 'Vilnia Maersk' and the adjacent 'W. Kampala' (IMO: 9215311), which was docked behind it. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries or pollution as a result of the accident. The water police have documented the incident and imposed a sailing ban on the damaged tanker, which incurred hull damage on its starboard side. Authorities have also initiated administrative proceedings against the tanker’s captain, aged 50. An investigation by the water police is currently underway. Following the incident, the 'W. Kampala' departed Bremerhaven the same day, heading towards Antwerp, with an estimated time of arrival on April 17, while the 'Vilnia Maersk' set sail towards Klaipeda, scheduled to arrive on April 18.
