Steel Plate Repair Rescues Volgo Balt 136 for Voyage to Baltiysk
On September 13, at approximately 4 p.m., the bulk carrier 'Volgo Balt 136' embarked from Travemuende, setting its course for Baltiysk with an estimated arrival time of September 16 at 2 p.m. Following an unfortunate incident, the vessel sustained bow damage which was effectively rectified by the machine construction firm Tiedemann Travemünder Tiedemann. Ferry Collides with Cargo Vessel in Travemuende Incident
On the evening of September 12, 2011, a serious maritime incident occurred in Travemuende when the Russian cargo m/v 'Volgo-Balt 136' (IMO: 8851390), with a gross tonnage of 2,457, was struck by the Priwall ferry 'Pötenitz' (MMSI-No.: 211513520). Just after 9:10 PM, while the ferry was navigating from Priwall to Travemuende, the cargo vessel was approaching from CT Luebeck when a collision took place, resulting in a significant hole measuring 50 centimeters in width on the 'Volgo-Balt 136'. Repairs for the ferry commenced the following day at the Coal Port in Travemuende. Initially, the hull damage went unnoticed due to night conditions, but the crew was alerted after Trave-Traffic advised the captain to anchor near buoy 1-3 to avoid incoming vessels. Following this advice, the police launch 'Habicht' identified the hull damage, prompting the 'Volgo-Balt 136' to return to East Prussia Quay for further investigations. Meanwhile, the 'Pötenitz' safely docked in Travemuende, allowing all passengers to disembark unharmed before it proceeded to the Coal Port.
