On September 26, 2019, at approximately 4:00 AM, a significant fire erupted within the superstructure of the Volgo Balt 205 (IMO: 8230338) while navigating the Volga River, close to Tolyatti city. The vessel, which was transporting a cargo of 300 tons of steel constructions, was making its way from St. Petersburg to Astrakhan at the time of the incident. The blaze spread rapidly throughout the entire accommodation block, prompting the crew of 12 to abandon the ship. Fortunately, nearby tugs arrived to provide assistance. Hours later, the fire continued to smolder within the superstructure, which was ultimately consumed and completely destroyed by the flames.
