In the early hours of February 26, 2022, at approximately 4:15 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Volgo Balt 239' encountered trouble as it ran aground at kilometer 51 of the Volga Caspian Sea Channel. The ship was making its journey from Astrakhan to Anzali when it became immobilized at coordinates 45°51'18" N, 47°39'00" E, blocking traffic along the critical one-way section of the channel. Fortunately, later that day, the vessel was successfully refloated with the assistance of tugboats and is set to be towed back to its starting point in Astrakhan.
