Tragic Recovery: Missing Crew Member from Volvox Asia Found After Two-Day Search
In a somber turn of events, the Indian Coast Guard successfully recovered the body of Raj Kumar Mylapilli, a trainee deck officer aboard the dredger 'Volvox Asia', two days after he fell overboard. This unfortunate incident occurred on January 12, 2019, while the vessel was engaged in dredging operations near Prongs Reef in Mumbai Harbour. Following a distress call reporting Mylapilli’s fall, the Coast Guard swiftly deployed a fast patrol boat and an interceptor vessel to initiate the search. Additionally, aerial surveillance was conducted using a Coast Guard helicopter from Shikra on both January 12 and 13. After extensive searching, the body was discovered by the Coast Guard ship 'Agrim' approximately three miles off Pong Reef at 1:15 p.m. on January 14. The deceased has since been transferred to the Mumbai Police for further investigations and formal identification processes. This incident highlights the inherent risks faced by maritime personnel in their line of duty.
