Maersk Kithira Marks Historic ME1 Service Launch at Wilhelmshaven

Mar 01, 2015 10:34

On February 26, the Maersk Kithira, with a capacity of 6,802 TEUs, made a significant milestone by becoming the first vessel to dock at Wilhelmshaven as part of Maersk Line's newly introduced ME1 service. This upcoming route not only enhances the existing Europe–Far East connections facilitated by the 2M Alliance but also offers shippers direct access to key destinations in the Middle East and India through Wilhelmshaven, according to the company's latest press release. The ME1 service uniquely connects Northern Europe with pivotal locations including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and India. Remarkably, this marks the third main shipping service to name Germany's only deep-water port as a port of call. Just a week prior, Wilhelmshaven welcomed its first vessel from the 2M Alliance, which operates two dedicated services to the Europe–Far East region. Complementing these services are three dedicated feeder routes managed by Seago Line, servicing crucial markets in Scandinavia and the Baltic, including Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, and Russia.

Repair Operations Underway for Maersk Kithira After Collision

Dec 10, 2014 09:56

On December 1, 2014, the container ship Maersk Kithira docked at the Dubai port for essential repairs at the renowned Drydocks World. This decision came after a significant collision with the vessel DS Kingdom while berthing in Jeddah on November 22. The impact occurred on the starboard side of Maersk Kithira, causing damage that necessitated immediate repair work. Experts estimate that the repairs are expected to last around ten days. Fortunately, there were no reports of cargo damage onboard. Thanks to a well-crafted contingency plan, any delays related to the cargo, which was subsequently unloaded in Jebel Ali post-incident, have been effectively minimized. Meanwhile, the DS Kingdom has set sail towards Kaoshiung, with an expected time of arrival on December 12.
