In the early hours of December 21, 2014, at precisely 01:23 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Fast Julia', which was on a voyage from Antwerp to Kaliningrad, experienced a grounding incident northwest of Hiddensee near the Dornbusch lighthouse. Fortunately, the ship was able to free itself using its own means, but it was subsequently directed to dock at the Ferry port of Sassnitz/Mukran for a thorough inspection. The vessel successfully berthed at 07:26 a.m. on December 22 at berth 6, where law enforcement boarded the ship and issued a sailing prohibition. Investigation revealed that the grounding incident was primarily caused by fatigue experienced by the helmsman at the time of the accident. While drug tests conducted on the helmsman returned negative results, he was still fined €228.50 for safety violations. A Port State Control inspection was conducted later that day. After necessary checks and protocols were followed, the 'Fast Julia' departed from Mukran at 7 p.m. on December 22, continuing on her course to Kaliningrad, with an estimated time of arrival set for 9 p.m. on December 23.
