Siemens Transports 890-Ton Gas Turbines to Beni Suef Power Plant via Wiebke
Siemens, the renowned German engineering giant, has embarked on a significant logistical operation, shipping an impressive 890-ton load of gas turbines from Berlin Westhafen port to the Beni Suef power plant in Egypt. This essential shipment includes two state-of-the-art SGT5-8000H gas turbines, slated for delivery over the next three months. The transportation route will see the turbines passing through the Port of Rotterdam and the Adabiya port on the Red Sea before reaching their installation site in mid-May. Willi Meixner, the CEO of Siemens Power and Gas, expressed optimism regarding the project, stating, "We anticipate the plant in Beni Suef to begin contributing electricity to the Egyptian power grid by the winter of 2016-2017. Siemens is proud to support our Egyptian partner in establishing a robust and dependable power system through our advanced power plant technology." Each gas turbine boasts dimensions of 12.6 meters in length and 5.5 meters in diameter, requiring two cranes for safe loading onto barges at Rotterdam. They will then be transferred onto the heavy-lift vessel Wiebke. Upon arrival at Adabiya port, the turbines will be carefully moved onto a specialized 40-axle trailer for transport along the Nile, covering the final 250-kilometer stretch to the Beni Suef power facility.
