On the morning of June 22, 2025, the ferry 'Willem Barentsz' became untethered from its moorings in the Terschelling harbour, setting off a swift response to manage the situation. The ship drifted sideways within the harbour, momentarily obstructing traffic. Authorities believe that strong winds might have been the culprit behind this unexpected incident. Three vessels from Noordgat were promptly dispatched to assist in stabilizing the ferry. Additionally, during the incident, a gangway fell into the water, though fortunately, there were no injuries reported. As part of the safety checks, divers assessed the ferry for any potential damage. Following the successful management of the situation, the harbour has now reopened to regular operations.
