Wilson Blyth Arrives in Malaga for Urgent Engine Repairs
On February 6, 2025, at noon, the 'Wilson Blyth' docked at Malaga's eastern port after experiencing a critical engine malfunction during its journey from Rotterdam to Livorno. The vessel, which was transporting a cargo of fertilizer and had nine crew members on board, made a stop in Ceuta on February 4 before facing a loss of propulsion mid-voyage. The vessel was successfully towed into port by the Greek-flagged tug 'Foteini Z', arranged through the Pérez y Cía. agency, with the assistance of tugs 'Trheintayuno' and 'Trheintaycuatro' for the berthing process. The cause of the breakdown was identified as a leak in the cooling circuit of the main engine, prompting a team of technicians from a Spanish company to mobilize to the port to initiate repairs. They utilized a cold welding system to address the damage effectively. By February 10, additional final works were underway, and on February 11, pending successful tests and no unforeseen issues, the 'Wilson Blyth' is set to resume its voyage to Livorno.
