Emirates Shipping Line Welcomes New Vessel Emirates Pearl to Enhance CIS China-India Service
Emirates Shipping Line (ESL) has proudly announced the arrival of its first 4,770-TEU vessel, part of a two-ship order from Hammonia Shipping in Hamburg. The newly christened Emirates Pearl was constructed by the esteemed Jiangsu New Yangzijiang shipyard in China. This vessel, formerly known as Hammonia Istria, will enter service on ESL’s CIS China-India route, taking the place of the 4,250-TEU Jpo Vela. This prominent service collaborates with OOCL and APL, collectively marketing the route as CIX. Within this partnership, ESL operates one of the six key vessels on the service. The Emirates Pearl boasts impressive dimensions with a length of 255.10 meters and a beam of 37.3 meters, featuring a configuration that accommodates 15 rows of containers and includes 600 reefer plugs to support refrigerated cargo. Notably, the 4,800-TEU ships from Jiangsu are designed similarly to the Hyundai-built Maersk Wafmax (Maersk-C-type) vessels, differing primarily in that the Emirates Pearl is a gearless baby-overpanamax vessel, unlike its fully geared counterparts. This addition marks a significant enhancement to ESL's fleet and underlines its commitment to serving the global shipping market effectively.
First of Its Kind 4,770 TEU Vessel Delivered by Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Shipyard
The Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Shipyard in China has marked a significant milestone in maritime construction with the delivery of its inaugural 4,770 TEU wide-beam vessel, named HAMMONIA ISTRIA. This state-of-the-art ship is set to be operated by Emirates Shipping Line (ESL) under the charter designation EMIRATES PEARL. The Dubai-based shipping company will integrate EMIRATES PEARL into its ‘CIS’ service, which facilitates trade between China and India. This service (#954) is a collaborative effort involving OOCL and APL, who effectively market it as the ‘CIX’ loop. Notably, the introduction of the EMIRATES PEARL will lead to the retirement of the older 4,250 TEU vessel, JPO VELA, which is slated to be returned to its respective owners. This delivery underscores Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Shipyard's growing prowess in producing innovative container ships for the global market.
