On September 29, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., the container ship 'X Press Godavari' docked at the Kolkata Port following a significant fire. The Indian Coast Guard promptly deployed multiple assets, including ICGS 'Varad', ICGS 'Amogh', and ICGS 'Amritkaur', along with a Dornier aircraft for aerial surveillance. Firefighting efforts began with boundary cooling operations conducted at the anchorage off Sandheads, situated over 100 kilometers from Haldia Port in West Bengal. Crews successfully extinguished the smoldering blaze on the port side of the vessel. In the evening, a fourth Coast Guard vessel arrived to assist in fully extinguishing the fire.
