X-press-Lhotse Vessel Reviews and Specifications

The container ship 'X Press Lhotse', carrying RMG export products bound for Europe and the USA, has been immobilized at Chattogram port for two days due to unresolved fines. The vessel was planned to depart for Colombo on May 15, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., transporting around 1,450 TEU containers, with a significant 90% of the cargo comprising ready-made garments. However, it has been unable to leave port after accruing Tk72.25 lakh in penalties issued by the Mercantile Marine Office in Chattogram for prior regulatory breaches. The ship previously transported cargo from Chattogram without a waiver certificate, contravening the Bangladesh Flag Vessels, (Protection of Interests) Act, an infringement that also resulted in multiple fines for its shipping agent, Sea Consortium. Initially scheduled to arrive at Colombo port by May 19, the vessel remains docked at Chattogram's outer anchorage, with its release occurring on the aforementioned date.
