Big Port Service DMCC Pursues CSCL for $1.77 Million in Unpaid Bunker Charges

Apr 14, 2015 10:39

In a significant maritime dispute, Big Port Service DMCC (BPS), a Russian bunker supplier, is reportedly seeking $1.77 million from China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) over an overdue payment for bunkers. This claim, as highlighted by Tradewinds, revolves around the supply agreement facilitated through OW Bunker. BPS is initiating arbitration proceedings in New York, aiming to resolve the matter concerning the delivery of 4,000 metric tonnes (mt) of bunker fuel. The fuel in question was supplied to CSCL's vessel, Xin Chang Shu, a 2005-built container ship with a capacity of 5,670 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU). The delivery took place at the Russian port of Kavkaz, underscoring the international nature of maritime fuel transactions and the challenges that can arise in the shipping industry.
