Pilot Injured in Fall from Xin Ya Zhou on the Elbe River

A maritime incident unfolded on March 18, 2023, at approximately 3:35 PM when a pilot sustained significant injuries after falling from the fallreep of the Chinese cargo ship 'Xin Ya Zhou' (IMO: 9244687) while navigating from Hamburg to Brunsbuettel. The unfortunate accident occurred as he attempted to transfer from the vessel to a pilot boat positioned nearby to transport him to shore. During his descent, the pilot slipped and fell four meters onto the foreship deck of the pilot boat. Immediately following the incident, he received medical treatment and was subsequently transported to a hospital in Itzehoe for further care. At the time of the accident, wind conditions were reported to be between 6 to 8 Beaufort. Meanwhile, the 'Xin Ya Zhou' continued its journey towards Rotterdam. This incident comes just a month after a tragic accident on the Elbe resulted in the death of another pilot who also fell into the river.
